Politics as usual...
We probably aren't going to be too political on this blog, but I came across this picture today. This pretty much sums up how we feel about the election right now.

"Yo, homes... Smell you later!!!"
Never heard of this guy, but this video is nuts. It follows the whole Fresh Prince of Bel Air theme to perfection. Very clever stuff!

SEPTA: They are getting there...

Going out at night and having to deal with public trasportation can be a pain. Most bus and train routes stop running by midnight. Depending on where you live, you may not even try going out unless you have a ride.
SEPTA just announced a series of improvements, which include increasing late night transportation. If done right this could be huge for the nightlife scene, which is pretty weak considering we are one of the largest cities in America. Let's keep our fingers crossed!

The Wackness

Just got to check out The Wackness. It's a coming of age story about a high school grad in New York during the summer of 1994. There is a lot of buzz about this movie because of a scene with Ben Kingsley and one of the Olsen twins gettin' it on in a phone booth. That is such a tiny part of this movie. The real draw for me was the mid-90s East Coast hiphop backbone that the movie has. It's almost like a "Juno" for the backpacker generation.
Other then Method Man's horrible Ja-fakin' accent, this was a great little movie. It will surely end up in the dvd collection.
Watch the trailer here:

Also, check out the official The Wackness mixtape.
Mixed by D-Nice (Yup... "My name is D-Nice" D-Nice).

Humpin' Around
Our peoples, djs Myles & Lindsey have this dope party they have been doing every Wednesday called The Hump. It's all about the music that came out between 1988-1998. Each week they have a whose-who of djs drop in to do their favorite joints from that era. Next Wednesday August 13th, the guest djs are DJ Unkle Chip of the Elite Camp and our own DJ Phillee Blunt. Check out the flyer below for details.
I have to point out that this event has a different flyer each week. The amazing cartoon work is done to perfection by Grotesk. These joints are collector's items.

Philly's Old School
Here is a real find right here. It's a short BBC documentary talking about how hiphop is changing the English language. I love watching old school hiphop footage in movies like Style Wars, Wild Style, and others. The problem is that all of those take place in New York, but this is actually in Philly. The Scanner Boys, Parry P, 52nd Street when it was nice, old Septa Trolleys... classic material! Shout out to Kelly for this.

The most sweated... J*Davey

J*Davey
We have been sweating J*Davey since we first heard "Cowboys and Indians" on their Myspace page years ago. They are the perfect mix of punk, funk, and hiphop. It's only a matter of time before they become the next big thing for the iPod generation.
They finally released their already classic Beauty in Distortion Album (which deserves a Grammy for "most downloaded"). But, it doesn't stop there. The release also includes a whole other cd of all new music called Land of the Lost (which was supposed to be their major label debut). I probably buy less music these days then I ever did, but a release like this is worth buying two copies. Support independent music!
