Skipmode invades Canadian Airwaves!

Here's a tasty little Rap mix from DJ Skipmode that he recently contributed to the Canadian radio program "Expansions" hosted by fellow old school aficionado Dr J.  Originally aired April 1 2016, this mix is heavy on the 80's and 90's Philly / New York styles with some underground left coast classics thrown in for good measure.  If you're into the old school funk/soul/disco/hip hop sounds and like to dig a little deeper than the classics, "Expansions" radio with Dr J airs every Friday night at 9:00 pm CST on 90.5 FM (Saskatoon Canada) and streams worldwide at

15 Years of The BODYROCK in Philly!!!

Wow! What can I say? Much more time has passed than it seems. In 2001, lil'dave invited DJ Panek, Phil, and I to play at a new spot called Aqualounge in the part of the city now known as Northern Liberties. Our mission for this collaborative party was to play some of the records we'd play on college radio and at house parties. We wanted to have a night driven by b-boy breaks, classic and indie hip-hop, underground house, and more. Hence our appropriate tagline of (Hip-Hop . Funk . Classics . Culture).

Once we got into a monthly groove of doing the event together, among other events and radio spots, we decided to ask Dave to join the Illvibe team for good. Within the next couple years, we started growing the party and had guest DJs (and some of our personal heroes) come to get down with us. Since the beginning, we've always been driven by music and people we feel present that music in the dopest way possible. Not just big names for the sake of having them in the same room. We're not motivated by sharing pictures with celebrities. It is always about music and style first for us. That's what went into our choices to invite, DJ Spinna, King Britt, Waajeed, Cash Money, J-Live, Prince Paul, DP-One, Skeme Richards, DJ Excel, Ge-Ology, DJ Mitsu, and a dozen other guest DJs over the years to bless our tables. We also had our longtime friend and one of most skilled DJs in Philly, DJ Skipmode join our gang in 2003.

Throughout the years, we've played at a number of venues to the most loyal party goers anticipating the best music they don't know they'll love yet. We've partnered with Redbull, Staple Pigeon, and Ropeadope just to name a few of the brands who've assisted in making these some of the most memorable events in Philly's history.

DJ Phsh aka Matthew Law joined our team a few years back to breathe new life into an already rich legacy. His Friends n Fam party has become like a spin-off of what we've presented to our audience for now 15 years and counting. With BODYROCK dates in several cities, a long list of past and future guests, an ocean of memories, and too many new friends to name, we're honored to have played for you Philly. You helped make us who we are and we thank you for 15 strong years. One of our favorite DJs and musicians, DJ Day will be in town from Cali for one night only just to help us celebrate on April 29th. This is going to be special. RSVP Here for more info and check out our Spotify playlist below. - - - Mr. Sonny James

TBT Redbull Public Assembly w Talib Kweli (2012)

A few years back, we were asked to participate in the Redbull Public Assembly Event Competition with Mad Decent & The Shakedown. The competition which happened in various cities, is about who can throw the dopest party with short notice at a different venue than normally used with a modest amount of money from Redbull. We were given about two weeks to pull together visual assets, an effective promo campaign, guest performer/host, co-sponsors, and event concept. Talib Kweli was gracious enough to join us which took this insane party over the top. A secret panel of judges attended each party and scored each event based on various criteria and decided our event was the illest. (pun intended) Anyhow, in honor of Throwback Thursday, we decided to post some lost archive footage following the entire process. This was both fun and stressful but worth it after seeing the smiles on so many faces throughout the week.
